About Us (& Ganesh)

Ganesh and Gildred
Ganesh is my 1996 Specialized Rockhopper (with slicks).  Ganesh is also a hindu God represented by an elephant head.  Ganesh is said to be the destroyer of obstacles and God of knowledge.  For those who have followed my saddle travels through the world, you know that Ganesh was named during an extended solo cycling trip taking me up and over some of the highest Himalayan obstacles of Nepal & Tibet.  My adventures with Ganesh are the subject of a long over due book entitled 'My Mother Gave Birth to a Vagabond'.  Until then, Ganesh is going to India for CAF!

Outside of my philanthropic rides through largely developing countries, I am the Founder & Chief Domestique of a boutique bike touring company, Ride Strong Bike Tours (http://www.ridestrongbiketours.com) .  Based in Carlsbad, California and the on the Col de Port in the Pyrenees, we offer endurance cyclists cycling vacations of a lifetime to the Alps, Pyrenees, Dolomites, Mt. Ventoux and a few other places we consider true cycling gems.

Mark "Marcus" Scully
Hola, my friends call me Marcus and I'm a new teacher in San Diego. I just returned to the California after two years teaching in Panama with the Peace Corps. Although my trusty touring bike doesn't have the pedigree of Julie's Rockhopper "Ganesh," I did get to ride across the United States over two summers while teaching in Austin, Texas. I've also been a full-time cyclist for six years (i.e., I don't own a car) and my dream is to ride around the world (don't ask me how I'm going to negotiate the oceans). Until that dream comes to fruition, I'm going to give my all in a ride across southern India for CAF!
